Helping acousticians make sound decisions.
Promoting acoustics
As an organisation for professional acousticians , companies active in the sector of acoustics and all interested in acoustics in Belgium, the Belgian Acoustics Association is actively working to promote the importance of acoustics to the Belgian government and policy makers. Our society board is dedicated to representing the interests of our members and advocating for the importance of acoustics in all aspects of society. We believe that acoustics plays a vital role in a wide range of fields, from architecture to environmental protection and public health to transportation and infrastructure planning. That is why we are working to ensure that the Belgian government and decision makers are aware of the importance of acoustics and are taking it into consideration in their decision-making processes. We are committed to being the voice of the acoustics community in Belgium, and to ensuring that our field is recognized and valued by policy makers and the public.
Our supporting members
Symposia
The Belgian Acoustical Society organizes symposia multiple times a year (see our events page for more info), providing informative events for members of the society to exchange information and connect with each other. These events are a great opportunity for members to learn about the latest developments and research in the field of acoustics, and to network with other professionals in the field. The society is dedicated to fostering a strong community of acousticians in Belgium, and these symposia are an important part of that effort. The events provide a valuable forum for discussion and collaboration. These events are accessible to members (reduced fee) and non-members. Whether you are a seasoned professional or a student just starting out in the field, these symposia are a great way to stay informed and connected with your colleagues.
European Acoustics Association
The Belgian Acoustical Society has a long and close relationship with the European Acoustics Association (EAA). In fact, the Belgian society was an integral part of the founding of the EAA, and we have remained actively involved in its operations ever since. We are proud to have one of our own board members, Dr. Prof. Botteldooren, currently serving as the president of the EAA. This close connection allows us to stay informed about the latest developments in the field of acoustics at the European level and to collaborate with our colleagues across the continent.
At the Belgian Acoustical Society, we are strongly motivated to connect our members to the EAA and to keep them informed about important conferences and events. We understand the value of being connected to a larger community of professionals, and we do everything we can to facilitate that connection for our members. Whether it's through regular updates about EAA events or by sharing other relevant information, we are committed to helping our members stay connected and informed about the broader world of acoustics. ABAV is also involved with the organisation of international conferences since a few decades.
ICA and I-INCE
ABAV is also a member of ICA (International Commission for Acoustics) and I-INCE (International Institute on Noise Control Engineering).
ICA
“The purpose of the International Commission for Acoustics (ICA) is to promote international development and collaboration in research, development, education, and standardization in all fields of acoustics. This is accomplished primarily by providing opportunities for the exchange of information and ideas among the various international acoustics communities.”
I-INCE
“The International Institute of Noise Control Engineering (I-INCE) was founded in 1974. It is a worldwide consortium of organizations concerned with noise control, acoustics and vibration. The primary focus of the Institute is on unwanted sounds and on vibrations producing such sounds when transduced.
I-INCE is the sponsor of the INTER-NOISE Series of International Congresses on Noise Control Engineering held annually in leading cities of the world. I-INCE also co-sponsors symposia on specialized topics within the I-INCE field of interest. “
